Poem to Paul

PaulDear Paul….

Hello again my friend, it’s been a while since we spoke.
You came to me in dreams, which I forgot when I awoke.
We never got to say goodbye, for which I do regret,
That famous gripping handshake, that wink before you left.

I laid my bike to rest one day, for fear that I might die,
But you rode on defiantly, and looked the devil in the eye.
I think you always knew one day, you might pay the ultimate price,
For the thrill of living on the edge, and your love of motorbikes.

Paul MotoXIf we could have just one more day, just for old times sake,
We’d do a spot of fishing, up at Llandod lake.
Then we’d gad our leathers, and crank up the old machines,
And wind ’em up, and smell the thrash, like we used to in our teens.

But I know that day will never come, so here I am to tell you,
That you meant so much more to me, than just a mere nephew.
You’ve been there through so much of my life, at one time or another,
I thought of you much more than a friend, more like my kid brother.

So as I say these final words, to you my lifelong friend,
I want you to know I loved you, right to the very end.
And although we never got the chance, to say our last goodbye,
Maybe we will meet again, on that big race track in the sky.

Gray.
